Compassionate, passionate, Joanne Shaw, diverse in sound and style, refuses to limit herself to one genre, as long as she reaches any success in a new one. So far she has managed to do just that. Her effective lyrics and melodies displayed in songs she created of jazz, folk, blues, ballad, rock, opra and broadway. Several of her songs possess meaningful tragedy storyline or "slash your wrist music", rich in insight, political commitment, or life's wisdom, such like that of Harry Chapman, Bob Dylan, Tracy Chapman, Mellissa Etheridge. But her writing subject is broader and includes Jazz, broadway show tunes, opra, celtic, folk, blues. She is similar in sound to Jewel, Patsy Cline, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Peggy Lee.
